Gaétan Barrette

  • Minister of Health and Social Services

Gaétan Barrette graduated in medicine from the Université de Montréal and is an associate member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He engaged in postdoctoral studies in vascular and interventional radiology at the University of California, San Diego.

In addition to practising medicine, he has served as president of the Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec and on the board of directors of the Financière des professionnels.  He has also been a member of the boards of directors of Sogemec Assurances and the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec.

Before entering politics, Dr. Barrette participated regularly as a speaker in various forums in Québec, Canada and the world over to publicize positions and challenges in the realm of specialized medicine in the Québec healthcare system.

He was elected MNA for La Pinière riding in the April 7, 2014 general election. He is currently Minister of Health and Social Services.
