Davos World Economic Forum Premier Couillard promotes Québec’s expertise and major economic projects

Davos, Switzerland, January 20, 2015 – Québec Premier Philippe Couillard is participating from January 20 to 23, 2015 in the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, accompanied by Minister of the Economy, Innovation and Exports Jacques Daoust. This year, the Forum has invited the Premier to participate in six workshops. The workshops, combined with 15 economic meetings and numerous political discussions already confirmed on the program, will make this year’s event one of the most important from the standpoint of the promotion of Québec’s expertise and the government’s major economic projects.

“The Davos World Economic Forum gives us a unique opportunity to consolidate business relations and present Québec’s key economic projects. Québec has much to offer the world, through the Northern Plan, the maritime strategy, access to clean, renewable energy such as hydroelectricity, combating climate change as a vector for a green economy, or our advanced sectors such as aeronautics, the life sciences or the information technologies. The remarkable concentration of political and economic decision-makers at the Forum will also enable us to take stock of the world economy and major trends from which Québec can benefit,” Premier Couillard noted.

The workshops in which the Premier has been invited to participate will focus, in particular, on the mining sector and on combating climate change. He will also participate in a workshop on business opportunities with Mexico, a significant economic partner for Québec.

“Québec is recognized for its attractive business environment and unquestionable strengths, such as its outstanding ability to innovate. To ensure economic growth and further stimulate investments, we must promote such strengths among the world’s major economic stakeholders. The Davos World Economic Forum is thus an ideal opportunity to establish fruitful, promising partnerships for Québec’s future,” Minister of the Economy, Innovation and Exports Jacques Daoust said.

The Québec government has been present for nearly 30 years at the annual event in Davos. In addition to the political and economic figures attending the gathering, the Forum relies on the presence of experts and representatives of civil society who are broaching key issues that societies and economies the world over are facing. Now in its 45th year, the World Economic Forum is organized under the theme “The New Global Context” and is expected to attract 2500 participants.
